Amazon Partners With Spanish Publishers to Strengthen Digital Book Marketing
Amazon has partnered with the Spanish Federation of Publishers’ Guilds (FGEE) to support publishers in enhancing the online presentation and discovery of their books. The collaboration focuses on helping publishers better manage and optimize editorial data across digital and physical sales channels.
As the publishing industry evolves digitally, books can reach broader audiences than ever before. However, unlocking that potential largely depends on how well publishers understand and manage the information associated with each title. This includes descriptions and categories, keywords, and metadata accuracy.
Training Session Highlights Editorial Metadata Power
To address this need, Amazon took part in a professional training session titled “The Importance of Editorial Metadata for Book Marketing Channels,” organized by FGEE. The online event attracted more than 300 participants from across the Spanish publishing sector.
José Manuel Anta, Managing Director of FGEE, emphasized that timely and accurate editorial information plays a critical role in commercial success. He noted that recent international research shows that books with complete and well-managed metadata consistently perform better on the market, achieving higher visibility and increasing sales.
Helping readers discover the Right Books
During the session, Íñigo Barranco, Kindle Senior Vendor Manager at Amazon, joined other industry specialists to discuss how high-quality editorial data improves discoverability and connects readers with books that match their interests.
Barranco explained that elements such as a compelling cover, a clear synopsis, appropriate genre classification, and relevant keywords all work together to influence purchasing decisions. When this information is incomplete or poorly structured, even strong titles can struggle to reach their intended audience.
Barranco says Amazon focuses on helping readers find what they need. As a result of accurate and complete editorial information, not only will the reader’s experience be enhanced, but it will also increase the likelihood that the book will be found and purchased by the reader.
Digital Tools Supporting Publishers of All Sizes
Amazon’s participation in the training reflects its broad commitment to working closely with the Spanish publishing community. The company regularly collaborates with publishers, distributors, and industry organizations to share practical insights and digital tools. This is done to support growth in an increasingly online marketplace.
Digital platforms have expanded opportunities for publishers by allowing older titles to remain discoverable long after release. They have also enabled independent authors to reach global audiences and give readers access to millions of books easily.
Industry Experts Share Practical Insights
The session featured perspectives from multiple areas of the book industry. Arantxa Mellado, Director of Datalibri, provided expert guidance on managing and structuring editorial data effectively. Representatives from Casa del Libro, including Product Manager Ignacio Ugalde and Product Owner Angela Portela, shared insights from one of Spain’s leading book retailers.
Together with Amazon’s contribution, these voices offered participants a well-rounded view of how to improve catalog visibility and sales performance across both online and traditional retail environments.
Technology as a bridge between publishers and readers
Amazon views technology as a tool that strengthens the entire publishing ecosystem. Beyond improving book discovery, digital systems also provide publishers and authors with valuable insights into reader behavior, market demand, and emerging trends.
“We want publishers of any size to benefit from digital transformation,” Barranco added. Sharing our experience will support a healthier publishing sector that ultimately serves readers better.”
